A male Uganda age 41-50, *manio writes:

Me I'm a Christian, my brother is not saved, I do respect him since he is like our earthly father. We usually spent time together and whenever he goes out to town to drink he makes sure I accompany him. At the bar he takes the beer as I take the usual soda. Is it wrong for me to go to the pub as a christian?

TasteofIndia agony auntHey sweetness,

It doesn't matter where you are, you can be a good Christian and go anywhere. Your location doesn't speak for your faith, your actions do. So if you feel like you don't want to drink because of your faith. keep ordering your sodas and you'll be fine (though I think a glass or two of wine won't hurt.).

Besides, it's always good to have a sober guy around in a bar... if anything bad should happen, you'll be in your right mind.

Be the designated driver (Jesus will applaud you).

xxIndia

P.S. What a great brother you are!

Variety agony auntWhy on earth shouldn't you be allowed to drink. And I totally disagree with the belief that Christian's can't get drunk. In no way are you disrespecting your god or your beliefs if you drink. It is not a sin to go out and have a good time. Maybe you should work out what your own boudaries are morally, rather than religiously (although I do accept that these things can be related). You may decide you would rather not drink, or will only drink in moderation. Don't be swayed by religious fanatics that piously promote their views...that are often completely wrong. Hope this helps. x

A male reader, anonymous, writes (30 October 2007):

Hey,

While it is perfectly OK to drink alcohol, it is evil to get drunk. You can take the other two answers' wishy-washy responses, but the fact of the matter is that while many bibical figures did drink wine at meals, getting drunk is still a big nono

nailglitter18 agony auntI'd say no. I don't think it's wrong for you to drink as a Christian either. Even Jesus drank wine!! One of His miracles was turning water into wine!

I am a Christian and I go to bars, I dance, and I drink. I believe that I am still a moral person, who helps others and believes truly in God, Jesus, and His laws.

What denomination of Christian are you?

A male reader, Zim United Kingdom +, writes (30 October 2007):

Zim agony auntNo it's not wrong at all. In fact, its amazing that you support your brother in the way you do. Also, the fact that he asks you to accompany him indicates a high level of trust and respect for you and the way you live. I think it might be possible that he might be thinking of becoming a Christian in time.:-)

It is a common misconception that Christians cannot drink or indeed go somewhere where there is alcohol involved. Having fun and living as a witness for God is the way we live our life. The more we act like we really are (i.e. just relaxing, but adhering to what it means to be Christian) the more likely others are likely to accept us and see Christianity as actually a pretty awesome religion which it is.

I hope that helps.

ZIM
