i would have to stay instinctively that men go for it more than women, and that women who do it often might get a bad reputation, at least in the old days, although not way back in the '70s. But truly it is dangerous with all the diseases you might get, or the fact that a man could be dangerous, although so could a woman.
But it's true that a woman who is in love with a man will sleep with him thinking it's mutual and he may not be thinking that way at all. Probably more woman get hurt this way than man, although men get hurt, too.

MANY girls/wowmen are at it far more than the men I was on holiday once and one young lady slept with 12 men in the fortnight!!!! That is not rare. many many young girls and older were sleeping around like tarts and enjoying every minute so even go back the following year for the same!!!!

 Not as much as men no. Otherwise why would pretending that you are actually interested in a woman be an effective method for getting her into bed? Which is what most men end up doing at one time or another.Evolutionary psychology offers some good reasons for why this is, albeit controversial ones.

 Well obviously women have as many one night stands as men. It takes two after all to have one.
Maybe some women as PsyCookie says do it for the wrong reason but perhaps some women also lie about wanting one because that is what our culture tells them to do. Lets face it, there are plenty of questions here about people having trouble with a woman having a sexual past.
Anyway, who cares. There is no such thing as a typical woman. Or a typical human for that matter. Remember, the typical woman has 2.5 kids.

I disagree with the other people that answered saying it has anything to do with respect. I mean sometimes it does have something to do with self respect however that is true rather male or female. sometimes there is just something to be enjoyed about a ONS!

 Most women think that one-night stands mean "We'll have sex this night, tomorrow I'll call you and we'll start a relationship soon after that."
Or at least this is what they expect. You see, many MANY women confuse sex with love, so they often think that by a guy having sex with her means he loves her and that he will want to be with her further that night.
The next morning when the guy gives her the bad news, the woman mopes, whines, and bitches on how men are dogs and wothless things who only want one thing, not even realizing or probably ignoring the fact that they were stupid immature idiots who live in fantasy world and hit reality in a very awkward way. Yes, I do in fact hate when womem do this. It's not the guy's fault all the time.
Now, there are few women, though VERY few, who enjoy one night stands and hold them like a guy does. But it's rare to find a chick who has this type of thinking.
As a side note, I find it funny that the most who answered are actually guys.

But if another guy who is out of her league tries it with her, he'll probably get it.
Either she'll go along with a ONS from the start or else she will self-delude her way into one. Either way it's the same end result. Better to be a discarded plaything for a hottie than settle for being the cherished GF of an average boring guy.

reader, anonymous, writes (3 August 2008): I think that most women who have 1 night stands actually want more than that, but it ends up being a 1 night stand. They expect it to be better than it ends up being and just don't want to go out with that guy again. That is what my wife tells me she wanted, but sometimes it ended up that is all the guy wanted or she didn't like him after the night was over. She was always hoping for more.
I had just 1 one night stand and that was all I wanted with that women. It turns out that she wanted more than that and I felt bad that I had just used her. Never did it again.
