Both my parents wear glasses now. My mum began wearing them when she was around my age (I'm 20). Reply to this Question Share |

"Getting a headache when you try to read and/or view computer screens is sometimes a symptom of long-sightedness that can be corrected by wearing glasses."
This is only true if the patient is middle age from 32 and above.
Since the OP is only around 18, he is most probably shortsighted or have astigmatism or both.
Shortsightedness may give you headaches when reading because you over strained your eyes during prolonged readings.
Astigmatisms may caused your eyes to blink and become watery because of the distorted images you see or the strong light or radiations from the monitor.
You will have to visit an Optometrist and not an optician in the UK as the optician is not allowed to examine your eyes.
Preferably use a Multi-coated lens for your glasses. It will help to reduce the glare from your monitor screen.

Getting a headache when you try to read and/or view computer screens is sometimes a symptom of long-sightedness that can be corrected by wearing glasses, but sensitivity to light isn't usually the same sort of problem and suggests something else is going on.
I would suggest getting a full sight test from a good optician - and preferably one who has the newer equipment that includes an Optomap retinal imaging scan (you pay a little extra for that but it's well worth it because it identifies or rules out a number of very serious conditions that otherwise are impossible to diagnose). The optician will produce a full report and refer you to a doctor if necessary with all the appropriate information for the doctor to make a full diagnosis (and refer you on to a specialist if neceesary).
There are over 2000 known medical conditions that can affect your eyes and many may produce the symptoms you describe. You need an expert opinion to rule out most of them - or to provide the right treatment and/or vision correction if necessary.

No, you need glasses if objects get blurry from either being too close or being too far.
I would take this to a doctor, being too sensitive to light might be an indication of something else being wrong then bad eye sight.
Medical questions should be put to doctors, not forums.

You might want to have that checked in to it is very possible. Nothing wrong with a check up, but it also sounds like you are having migraines which could be cause by needing glasses as well. My advice is to just go to the eye doctor for a check up!
