I'm not complaining about this - he's very sensitive about me saying no if I'm hungover myself and if I'm in the mood and we're not busy I get 3 or 4 rounds of great sex out of it.So I guess I'm just curious. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this (is it common?) and if there are any theories as to why a hangover would make a guy horny...

A
reader, anonymous, writes (9 January 2009): As a matter of fact, anon, it has been noted and commented on. It would seem that "morning after horniness" is a common occurrence, especially with younger men. I have heard several theories,...all of which may be involved. For one thing, alcohol is a depressant, though it may seem to give increased energy, but the calories in alcohol are burned quickly and provide little real energy for very long. It also depresses the nervous system, which sort of goes into "hybernation" while the person is imbibing. When the alcohol wears off during sleep, the person awakes with the symptoms of a "hangover" and has little feeling of muscle energy, but the sexual energy that has been repressed is now back with renewed vigor. It has "had a rest". This is not "scientifically" proven, but it is one theory. Another is that while alcohol depresses the nervous system, it may stimulate the production of endorphines (pleasure hormones) in the brain, which then stimulate the production of testosterone (in both men and women). These are just a few theories. Anyway, it is at least one benefit from an otherwise "not-so-pleasant" experience,..hangovers.
