I have a cousin who is an au pair but she did the process through an agency, which is safer but it'll cost you more. First of all if you don't have an agency you have to find a family (in some countries like the US you have to have an agency) . DO Not believe in those families who offer a lot of money it's generally a fraud, then make sure you know what's expected from you, some families believe the au pair is also their cleaning lady, when in fact the main function of the au pair is to take care of the kids. The problem is if you don't hire an agency's services, if you don't like your host family you'll have to put up with them until you find another one by yourself. I know of some people who have found a host family through those websites but make sure you talk to the parents ask about the kids, if you'll have your own room, your duties, your wages... Talk with them a lot before you make your decision, don't settle for the first family who makes contact, wait a little bit and get to know them better...
