No such thing as a "legit" work from home site, they're all scams intended to extract as much money as possible desperate, debt-ridden people who can least afford it.
When times are tough there is never a shortage of hustlers looking to take advantage of others for their own financial gain because there is never a shortage of marks willing to believe what they want to hear.
Use common sense, you can't expect to get something for nothing, the only people who make money from get-rich-quick schemes are those who peddle them by preying on the general public's stupidity and greed (as those who fall for these scams are indeed essentially looking to make money without investing any in exchange, economic impossibility, no such thing as a free lunch).
Unfortunately millions of people are in dire financial straits with more bills than money to pay them, and at the risk of sounding harsh, a large number of them have more education, professional training and job experience than you, yet they are still drowning in debt; if there was a legitimate way to make money by working from home with no initial investment required, then that market would already be saturated with people who have a lot more business smarts and savvy than you.
Sorry to sound unkind, but that's the cold harsh reality of a near-Depression economy. Jobs are so scarce that any legit employer doesn't have to advertise for applicants, and to repeat, any work-from-home website or TV commercial or sign stuck to a telephone pole is a scam that will end up costing you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.

Another idea you could try is a pet sitting service. People pay a lot of money to put their cats and dogs in kennels when they go on vacation and it can be traumatic for the pet. Animals do better if they are in their own home and you could provide a dog walking, cat/ dog feeding service with very little outlay.

I was also going to suggest the ironing.
When my kids were little I used to collect peoples ironing on a Tuesday and drop it back Thursday or Friday. I got a set of fishing scales whick cost about £8 and weighed what I was given and charged by the pound.
It was hard work, but I did it with a regular iron, was extra careful when ironing delicates and used to hang everything (hangers supplied by my customers)
At my busiest I was ironing for 8 families, made about £150 a week and was never short of business. I kept it going for 7 years and it was a great feeling to make decent money for just a couple days hard work. I never noticed a massive hike in the amount of electricity I was using and when I was done with the business and went back to full time work, I passed my customers on to my friend and it kept her in money for the next 4 years.
Hard work but an excellent way to bring money in with little outlay and little skill.

Its very hard to make money without first outlaying some, however, something that goes well here in Australia is to take in other people's ironing, although a pick up and deliver service does seem to work best you could ask your customers to drop it off on in the morning and pick it up again on their way home from work.
