Eat less, eat right, and exercise more.

Exercise more. We're talking aerobic exercises: swimming, cycling, jogging. Try them in that order (which is least to most joint stress, and thus injury potential, and thus the amount of professional guidance you will need) until you find one that works. You need three sessions of at least one hour a week. More is better, although sessions under 30 minutes don't count.

Find a group for motivation: Masters swimming, a local cycling website or cycling promotion group to find out about rides, a masters jogging or athletics group.

Start small, real small. Work up slowly. Slow lane in the pool resting during the program, 15Km bike ride, walking. If you feel good on the day you don't go further, you plan a 10% longer session next time. Build up towards motivational goals: both small ones (a full swim program in the slow lane, cycling a big hill without walking) and big ones which might take two years: 2Km open water swim event, 100Km bike ride.

Take up an active life. Hiking, canoeing, mountain bike, horse riding, etc. These aren't exercise, they are not TV.

Restrict screen time to an hour of non-work time per day. You'll be surprised how motivating boredom can be.

Exercise and an active lifestyle means you will eat less. So you only need to worry about eat right.

Don't eat wrong. Simply stop buying food that you eat immediately. It has to go into a kitchen cupboard first. You'll be surprised how much you get motivated to stop immediate ill-considered eating once you've had to pull your big butt up a mountain.

Eat right. That means planned meals. Buy some well regarded cook books on fast healthy meals. Decide which you are cooking. Make a shopping list. Add a healthy breakfast (yogurt, museli, juice, etc). Add two or three snacks per day (fruit).

Lunch is the great immediate ill-considered meal. So you must take a packed lunch every day. Salad sandwich, tuna and rice, whatever makes sense for your workplace. Add those ingredients to the shopping list.

Don't buy any food items which are not on the list. BTW, beer is a food item, it is not on the list more than one serve a month.

Monitor progress. Weekly weigh in, graph the result. But ask "why"? Do you get sucked in by going to too many large meal events Halloween-to-Christmas? What if for some of them you made an appearance, wished everyone well, and left? Is it too cold for your favorite activity? Can you do a variation indoors?

By all means join a gym. Look for somewhere with an aerobic class and casual facilities (bikes, rowers) and a good range of well-supervised fixed and free weights. You'll start off with nearly pure aerobics, but you don't want to change gym when it is time to strengthen some core muscles so that your body can make a greater aerobic effort. Don't stuff about, select personal training for the first two years. It will cost a lot more, but it is well worth it for effective exercise, avoiding injury, teaching you how your body works, and motivation (you're not going to cancel if someone is waiting for you).

Join a cooking class. You'll be cooking a lot more, and being able to cook a wider range of meals and use the kitchen efficiently will motivate you not to give up. If you are single, use the freezer and microwave effectively. Even in a family, having three or four good quality meals in the freezer stops the resort to the ill-considered fast food order.

You need to use an extra 3500 calories/ eat 3500 calories few t lose 1lb of fat. I'm about the same weight as you and I'm trying to lose some as well. It's quite hard to get rid of those extra calories but not impossible. You can easily lose 1lb a week, and at this rate you should definitely lose enough for the summer. You need to combine eating less/eating more healthily with more exercise. It's as simple as that. Work out your calorie intake and expenditure and this will make sure you know what you are using. Keeping a food diary is a good idea. Running or walking 1 mile = 100 calories. It is hard work but you can do it! Stick at it.

LilPixie agony auntOne of my favourites, even though i haven't been for ages - swimming! It's really fun if you go with a friend, it works just about every muscle in the body and therefor helps you to loose weight as well as tone up!

If you join a gym you will have enough equipment to help you work out and they will most probably have someone who will show you how to use them properly.

It can never hurt to make a little change to what you eat. But what a lot of people often don't realise is that they might actually the perfect weight for their body and all they have to do is tone up.

Also, it's important that you know how much weight you want to lose. It's happened so many times that a girl wanted to lose just a little weight and it turned into an obsession, so be careful.

I would suggest seeing a doctor before trying lose weight because you will be making changes to your body that it won't be used to and a doctor will be able to tell you how much you should weigh and if there is going to be a risk for you to lose weight.

Good Luck

RAINORFIRE agony auntexercise to be honest thats the best way running swiming sit ups and push ups it wont be easy if your over weight to begine with becuse you have less energy strength and endurance starting out then a fit person.

you could diet and all that but if you have alot of weight or even just chubbyness an a belly then you need to tone up as well or you will have alot of saggy skin.

I suggest drinking lots of water gatorade to replenish electrolytes and salt and spending atleast two hours exercising,

The basic way is to runn a mile and half atleast do push ups sit ups and pull ups you can alternate runn one day then the next do a set of push ups and sit ups and pull ups.

watch your diet try to eat foods with less fat, i personally like carbs but if your trying to loose weight go easy on them. carbs turn to fat unless you burn them off.

when i was your age i was small and had many bullies so i got a weight set 5 to ten lbs dumbells and a bar but i didt have a bench, i got to the point where i could curl 15 lbs 100 reps. i also did sit ups and push ups till i would throw up, my diet consisted of two slices of whole wheat bread sometimes with cheese and ice cream a doctor told me i needed more calcium my bones where week and dont like milk exept ice cream. after three months or so i was a beast i was ripped no kid would bother me unless he brought an army. but its hard work you will be in pain.

I understand your just trying to loose weight but the thing is fat doesnt dissapear you have to metabolize it and your body wont do that untill a last resort because fat is a reserve in case your trapped after an earthquake or something you could just eat a carrot for a month straight but you still need to tone so there wont be excess skin.

well thats about it hope it helps it will get easier and excercising is far easier then dieting in my opnion i love food and eat what ever i want now but ill push out 500 push ups in an hour to make up for my extra large calzone and soda. I suggest for starters you limit your food intake let the fat feed you till its gone.

140? wow. i would hate to weigh that little... i'd probably fall over... i'm 190-210 approximately........ for those who call you chubby, chubby isn't bad, first off. girls are meant to be curved and soft and you cant do that if you weigh too little....

back on topic.

to lose weight, walking works wonders. alter your eating... different things everyday. drink lots of water instead of caffeinated stuff.... around 30 minutes of exercising a day.......

good luck
