First ask him whether he has met her or not. If not he could just be dreaming. If it means nothing, why does he want to separate? Doesn't seem to make sense. You need to get the facts.

It will only get worse. You can either stay and suffer or leave and find some one else. Or two can play that game as long as you play bad cop and let him think it doesnt matter. If you ruin a guys ego its hard for them to accept trust me.
