A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Im really fuming here and i need someones opinion and advice.

Here goes...

My manager is on maternity leave and we have another temporary manger in to cover. She is ok-we all just put our head down and get on. Now on 1 day in december i was working half a day as i was meeting my mum to go in to town for some last minute xmas shopping-i got held up sorting out some paperwork so i asked my manager if my mum could come upstairs and wait in the office for 5-10 min (my mum works a few blocks away and had arrived at my workplace)and she said no and for mum to wait at reception.I accepted it even though my other manager allowed it.

Now yesterday my managers friend came to meet her for lunch and guess what...she came up to our office!! They waited about 20 min up there as my manger had to finish something off before they went to lunch and then when they came back an hour later her friend stay another half hour-she sat downs and my manager made her a cup of coffee and they were chatting etc...I understand she is the temporary manager but this was unfair! My colleagues all agree. Im not going to say anything to her but i just want to know am I being stupid for feeling angry about this?

Jmo agony auntYou have a right to be upset, but don't take it too far. Stay calm and express your concerns in a rational matter. And if it comes to it, tell her you do a damn great job and you should get treated the same way or you should get a raise.
