First love is always melodramatic and that is as far as it goes. You cannot tie yourself down to some one who is a rolling stone which gathers no moss.
You may have made a promise to him but did he also promised you a lot of things and never carried them out?
Your promise was not in black and white and you don't need to feel bad about it. It was only applicable then but the situation has changed and is not applicable now.
You need to move on and not wait by the sea shore or you will turned into a stone statue.
