If he really is saying that it's me or the kid then he's not much of a mate.

reader, anonymous, writes (15 April 2009): Ask him what he would do in either case, but i feel that this child's life is far more important. Try not to think as much about yourself in this situation. I don't believe you should spend your heart on a man who would just pick up and leave because you're choosing to give this little girl/boy a chance at life. He is at fault as well. Just think about it but don't base your decision purely off your mate.
