A tactful solution to my b/f constantly talking about work

Question - (7 May 2009) 1 Answers - (Newest, 7 May 2009)
A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Hello all! I've been dating my boyfriend for about 8 months. He's great - really smart and has a very intense job, with tons of pressure and a bizarre management structure that cause a lot of stress. He talks about it constantly, at length. I try to be supportive and listen and sympathize, but sometimes I want to tell him to shut up and that I have work and life stress too!

Can you guys help me with a tactful way to get the point across that it's kind of rude to talk about himself for hours before getting around to how my day went? I get a little angry in the moment and I'm afraid I'll say something mean. He's a sensitive fellow :)

Thanks!

find something to do that you BOTH enjoy, rock climbing, swimming, hiking, miniature golf bowling, etc etc just to get his mind from work
