A rhetorical question, in the UK, if two people under 16 consent to sex, is it legal?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

This is just a quick question.

I know that in the UK the legal age for sex is 16. Does this mean that if 2 people under 16 consent to sex is it legal? I mean, I know that it's illegal when a person above the age of 16 has sex with somebody below the age of 16, but if they're both below the age of 16 is this still illegal?

Thanks

P.S I'm not planning on having sex any time soon, I'm only 15, me and my friend were just wondering.

Sorry, CORRECTION NECESSARY, the police and the government don't consider these as punishments, their aim is always to keep the underage boy and girl safe.

The age of consent in the UK is 16 for both boys and girls. It is illegal to have sex before this age. It dosen't matter if you are both underage. Unfortunately, we still have a sexist system, the punishment is different for boys than it is for girls. In theory, both boys and girls can be charged with having "sex with a minor" and be put on the "sex offenders register", but this rarely happens to girls, there are a few 15year old boys that this has happened to. It really is a matter for the girls parents and the police if he will be charged or not.

There is also punishments that can be taken by the government without involving the police and the law. Social workers can come in and decide that the boy or the girl is "beyond parental control". The boy or girl can be taken away and placed in a home, they can be forced to report to a social worker regularly, the school will be informed and they can be placed on the "At risk register". This is usually the punishment that is applied to girls.

These are the harshest penalties that can be applied to a boy and girl who are having under age sex and refuse to stop. But I must admitt, it is rare for such punishments to happen, but be carefull, because it can. Who knows when the police and social workers will decide to apply such punishments. These things have happened, but not very often it's true.

Peterk5699 agony auntIn a word, no.

It is still illegal for anyone to have sex under the age of consent.

The older one, if under 16, won't be arrested but will be in a rather large bit of trouble and could be kicked out of school, put into a boot camp and his or her parents won't be too happy either.
