So, he loves to hug me and we could hug for hours without saying anything, then, for my birthday, he made me a cake that he made and frosted himself! If your only interest in him is as a friend, then I suggest you make that clear to him.
Do not ask him if he fancies you as that sets him up for rejection and humiliation. Be matter of fact and tell him you enjoy this friendship as long as that is all it is. He has the opportunity to save face by assuring you he feels the same way.

reader, anonymous, writes (8 September 2011): In my experience guys don't like to cuddle or hug with girls they don't like. In fact, they don't even like to touch them (like arms or hands touching, etc.) So I would say that right there is a big maybe.
Also, guys don't often go out of their way to do super special things for girls they don't like.
The only way you can know for sure is to ask him, though.

 Well, the cake is pretty meaningful- unless he's a pastry chef by trade :).
I can't be 100% sure of course , but I would say that yes, he likes you back.
