Have a great date.
take care

Hi Anonymous,
If a birthday card scares this guy, are you sure you want to be dating him? lol
Seriously - I think it's a great idea! Buy him the card, have a laugh, let him know that you're a sweet person.
Have fun on your date!
Take care.

I would very much like to receive a birthday card from the person I am dating, whether it is the first date or any other. However, I'm Latino, and for us a birthday present does not entail the sort of "commitment" it apparently does for Anglos.
How did you learn it was his birthday? If you learned that by chance, I'm sure he will love the card. If you don't want to rush things, just make sure he knows how you found out about his birthday.
On the other hand, it wouldn't really matter how you found out He would love the interest anyways.
Hope this helps.

You're out with me - of course you're having a great time!" and maybe a lottery scratch-and-win ticket (and you could say something about not knowing him well enough to get a very personalised gift, but being that you're not "that" kind of girl, he at least has that chance at getting lucky). It'll make him laugh at least!!
