I think she does and I think it's because you're both so young. More than anything she's probably worried about being judged by someone her own age in school or something like that. I think you can afford to be her friend for now, and if you really like her maybe in a few years she'll be happier. Be a good understanding friend to her.

reader, anonymous, writes (27 December 2009): I had a friend who dated a man 13 years older than her. He had little problem with it in the beginning, but the longer they dated, the more it became an issue in their relationship.
If she is having an issue with it now, I think she will always have an issue with it. If after 3 months it's still a problem, I would advise you to end the relationship.

 I don't really think age could be a problem. Try to talk to her, tell her that your mind is bigger. If she really likes you she will never care of your age and it worth a try !
