writes: Dear agony aunts i'm a 19 years old guy and i'm confused weather am i hiv+ or not,i've lost a lot of weight recently and my skin colour is getting dark.I did hiv testing 5 times since october 2009 and my last test was on the 23rd of june 2010 and it was stil negtv.I stil feel sick though and the doctor said there is no need for me to come bck for another test bcoz i'm clean.People around my community say that i'm positive and no 1 wants 2 hang around with me.I cant go to school or walk on the street any more.Pls help what can i do to solve this prob?

reader, anonymous, writes (13 July 2010): You need to be checked for liver problems (can be caused by alcohol) and additionally hepatitis (some forms are sexually transmitted and some aren't).if those tests are negative you should be tested for more rare disorders like Addison's (adrenal failure), and metal storage disorders.Everything i've mentioned causes skin to darken and weight loss.

You've had five tests and all have proved negative. That means that you may have another illness. I think you need to go back to your doctor and get checked for other illnesses.

I strongly suggest you go back to your dr or find a new dr if you are not happy with your current one, and ask for blood tests to be done as it does appear that you have some underlying health problem.
Diabetes and TB are rife in South Africa, and either one of those diseases cause loss of weight. So please, go seek some medical assistance.

Well if you've had 5 tests and all came back negative then the chances of you having HIV are extremely slim.
If you're really worried about it see a different doctor if possible and explain your concerns and symptoms.
