writes: So recently I have been very stressed out about all aspects of my life. I wake up at 5:45 am to catch the bus, which comes at 6:30. My school has block schelduling, so i only have four periods of homework to worry about, but my english ad history teachers are notorious for giving ridiculously large amounts of homework (both honors courses) and being very critical when grading, and my math teacher gives homework every night, but sometimes i get it done in class. I usually end up doing homework on the bus. I get very tired and sometimes end up falling asleep in math (my last subject of the day) but thankfully my math teacher rocks and doesn't take off points. However, I'm a year ahead in math (not an honors course, but most freshman would be taking algebra, and I'm taking geometry, which is what most sophmores take) and I can't pay attention to the lesson, letting my grades slip anyway. I have cheer practice after school until 5, and in tuesdays and thursday I have dance right after, and on mondays I have gymnastics. I usually get home from 6-7:30. I then eat dinner, and get started on a massive pile of homework. I'm usually so tired I don't put much effort and get bad homework grades. Because of this, i currently have a C in both english and history, a low B in math, and an A in german (the only class that rarely gives homework). I'm trying to work back up to an A or at least a B, but its not easy. And I never get to watch my favorite TV shows or have a social life. I usually end up actually getting to bed around 10:30 because I'm up doing my homework. And I usually only get 6-7 hours of sleep. I'm overworked and overwhelmed and i don't know what to do!? Any advice?

Just ask the teacher if you can talk to him or her and then tell them you are finding your work load too much at the moment and ask if they can suggest some ways to lighten it up. Like I said teachers are people too so just be honest and tell them what's happening to you.

I made a commitment to dance and cheer, but gymnastics is actually only to get my back handspring for cheer and i only need a few more lessons.

The first thing would be to cut out one of your extra curricular activities. If that doesn't improve things for you then you may need to cut out another one. You have three right now and that is too many if your school work is suffering.

My only suggestion is to talk to your teachers about the stress you are under and ask them how they can help you manage your work load and make it easier. Remember teachers are just people, they have children, husbands, wives and lives outside their jobs so don't put them on a pedastal and be scared to talk to them. They are being paid to help YOU advance through life.
