A female reader, GettingHelp South Africa +, writes (15 July 2010):

morning after pill? Dangerous. Don't mess with your health - get on The Pill now. And use condoms too.

The morning after pill and the pill can't protect you from STDs or HIV/AIDs. If you're with one guy: get on the pill and go get tested together for everything. Don't mess with your health.

Honeypie agony auntYOU need to go see a doctor. YOU also need to get on birth control pills/patch. OR stop having sex.

EDUCATE yourself. USE condoms as well as BC pills.

If you can not take/use contraception more serious then you do, stop having sex and please don't have kids.

Parents need to have a sense of responsibility.

Gabrielle Stoker agony auntThe morning after pill is not a form of regular contraception. It is likely to mess around badly with your system in the long run. Please visit a gyneacologist for qualified advice on reasonable methods of birth control.

A female reader, k_c100 United Kingdom +, writes (15 July 2010):

k_c100 agony auntThe morning after pill IS NOT a form of contraception - it is an emergency contraceptive that is somewhere in between the birth control pill and the pills they use for an early abortion. What the morning after pill does is stop any sperm that are currently in your fallopian tubes or womb from fertilising the egg, and also changes the lining of your womb to make it unsuitable for becoming pregnant. It should ONLY be used as a last resort, when all other forms of contraception have failed. As you have experienced yourself, it has side effects and is not for repeat use.

Here is some information I found online:

# The morning after pill does not provide continued contraception to prevent pregnancy after you have taken it. It is recommended that after taking it, you use a barrier method of contraception such as a condom or cap, until your next period comes. This is also recommended even if you are also taking the pill. You should talk ask your doctor, pharmacist or family planning clinic for advice about regular methods of contraception.

# This medicine should only be used as an emergency measure. It is not recommended for repeated use, as it is possible that it can disrupt your menstrual cycle.

# This medicine will not always prevent a pregnancy. If you do become pregnant after taking this medicine there is a possibility that the pregnancy will be ectopic (ie occuring in the fallopian tubes rather than the womb). For this reason, you should consult your doctor if you experience any sudden or abnormal abdominal pain after taking this medicine, and if your next period is shorter or lighter than your normal period.

# Emergency contraception does not protect you from sexually transmitted infections.

So there you go - there is no good reason to use the morning after pill unless your usual methods of contraception has failed.

So please visit your doctor, get an STD test as you might have already caught one, and then get some condoms and birth control. There are a number of forms of birth control available so talk to your doctor and they will be able to advise you on what will work best for you.

I hope this helps and good luck!

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (15 July 2010):

The morning after pill really is a last resort. At some point, this won't work. You need to get yourself on the Pill, and I would also recommend getting tested for STD's given that you've not been using condoms. You can't afford to put your health at risk.
