I am a young teen girl verging on being 18, and some of you may of read from my previous questions that I am trying to lose weight. Its going very well I have gone from 13 stone to almost 12 in less than a month so I am very proud of myself. However there is one problem which I can't seem to fix and it is getting to me. The reason I ended up getting so big in the first place was because I was put on pills which caused me to have a hormonal imbalance which caused me to put on weight and become ravenously hungry. I put on 3 stone with 3 months, it was horrible and i'm so glad i'm now working the weight off. However this sudden weight gain has left me with HORRIBLE stretch marks. I have always had little stretch marks, they never bothered me, but now they are big, unmissable and just awful. I know some of you might think i'm being over the top or that "every woman has strecth marks" but I have seen pregnant women with less stretch marks than the ones I have got and I just cannot stand it. I am worried that by the time I lose all the weight I am still going to be insecure, and have a horrible looking body, the thing which really upsets me is that this weight gain wasn't my fault, and I feel sad that at the age of almost 18, I have worse stretch marks than some women in there 40's. I want to get rid of them, is there anything I can do? I'd even be willing to have a op if I had to. Thanks x

First off, congratulations ! So, basically , after one month you already are one third of the way ? Excellent, OP, keep going.
Do not fret over stretch marks, OP. If push comes to shove, yes there are cosmetic surgery solutions ( expensive ! I think you will have to wait a few years before you can afford them on your own... ) . But , with stretchmarks, time is on your side. It' s maybe the only good thing that happens to your body getting older :) stretch marks fade, a lot. They never go away but fade. I had a few ( not many and not huge, but still .. ) which were visible when I was young, and now they have so paled and so blended with their landscape that you have to go look up close to detect them.
In the meantime, just try to keep your skin hydrated and nourished to maintain elasticity and prevent new stretchmarks. I don't know Bio Oil, I hear it's excellent, - or you could use collagen creams , or specific anti- stretch creams for pregnant women... but basically anything will do, if you apply it abundantly and constantly enough to keep your skin supple.

Don't forget they will not go away. They can however look a lot lighter with the bio-oil.
they are in essence like scars.

I know some people have stated that they fade when you lose weight, so i'm willing to let nature take its course and then attempt it with the Bio-oil.
I'm not bothered by the ones on my legs or arms or whatever..they are just normal stretch marks that I can live with, its just the ones on my stomach which are hideous.
I will try out the bio-oil, and if they haven't improved after the Bio-oil and weight loss, I will go to my Doctor and look at medical routes.
Thank x

Bio oil or/and Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Tummy Butter are really good for stretch marks.

Try Bio-oil for starters which is designed to fade stretch marks and scars. It's not a miracle cure but it's the best thing on the market. It's quite expensive and you have to use it regularly for quite some time before you start seeing results but you can start using it tomorrow - unlike some of the other options where you may have to lose the rest of your weight first.Surgery isn't always an option for stretch marks - a tummy tuck might be useful for abdominal stretch marks but it's not an option for ones on the arms, thighs, buttocks and breasts.Laser treatment is another potential option that you can look into.If you are still seeing your G.P regularly (for either your weight loss or the management of your other condition) mention it to him too and ask his opinion. You probably won't get the treatment on the NHS but he may be able to guide you in the right direction of reputable clinics etc.But try the Bio-oil. You can get it from any pharmacy over the counter. It's about £20 for a large bottle
