Jealousy, pure and simple. That's what inspired them to do this. You're right, they aren't real friends. However, they're not being motivated on a desire to see you hurt, just annoyed because they want new cars of their own and they aren't mature enough to just be happy for you.Your choice is to decide whether you'd like to keep hanging out with them. There's reasons for both options - if you don't want to put in the time or energy to hanging out with fairweather friends, that's totally understandable. On the other hand, if you accept that it's a shallow friendship and that you can't trust them, you can still go on and have fun with them... just don't trust them with the deeper sides of yourself. Fool me once...
