Why would my ex's friend act worried when he found out I was going back to school? Did my ex put him up to this?

A female Canada, *uzzie writes:

I used to always tell my ex bf I would never go back to college. This is mainly due to low self esteem as a direct cause of his abusive (mentally) behavior. We broke up 6 months ago because he was being a jerk. I have a job just not a very good one. I have been working on my self esteem and even went back to school and got an 83% on my final to be a personal trainer. Well I have not seen or talked to my ex in all this time because he lives out of province. Recently his best friend was in contact with me at my place of work. He asked how my job was going and I told him I was going back to school to be a personal trainer. Well then he got this shocked, worried look on his face. Do you think my ex put him up to this? And why would he look worried that I'm going back to school?

TasteofIndia agony auntWhy are you even worried about the expression on his face?

You should be proud of yourself! An 83% on a final is pretty impressive, and it's great that you're going back to school! You should be proud of yourself.

Screw your ex! Who cares what he or his friend thinks? It's all about YOU, baby! Find someone who's going to be cheering you on, making you feel good about yourself and treating you like a lady.

Good luck and keep at it!!
