Why would he touch if he's not a touchy kind of person?

A female United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

Hi,

This thing really puzzled me the other day. I was hoping you could help me out with it so... here goes.

Why would an older man (mid-fifties) touch a younger woman's arms and back, if he isn't a touchy feely sort of person usually (I've never seen him invade anyone else's personal space)? Especially if he seems secretly introverted (he hides it well) and should not really be doing that type of action in a educational environment in front of students?

If he was touchy feely, I would have maybe excused it but...he's not.

What's going on with him?

if he did it out in the open in front of people then it was innocent and i wouldn't make anything of it.
