reader, anonymous, writes (24 November 2005): This may seem like a rigid, answer, but I remember being in this situation as a young person, and it was annoying as heck. Sometimes, a guy will do it, if he's awkward and shy but if he's not a shy, insecure type, I would have 2nd thoughts about a guy who cannot give a straight answer to a very simple question. If he makes a continual habit of this I would say, it sounds like he might not know what he wants, and he might just enjoy the power of stringing you along, thus playing mindgames.
Young guys like to feel their power. If I were in your shoes, I would tell him to be honets and straight and then you should back off to let him think about it. If he is interested, he will follow, and start being straightforward, too. Expect nothing less. One of the best ways in a relationship, is to be honest and open...not confusing and playing little games. Set your boundries now with him and tell him...you want straight answers, only. There's no need for otherwise.
