writes: dear cupid,soo, i'm one of those girls who refuses to have sex while she's on her period. of course, just because i refuse to do it doesn't mean that i never get the urge to do it. whenever that happens, i satisfy the desire by masturbating (through clitoral stimulation). here lately, i've noticed that whenever i orgasm while i'm on my period, it's somewhat painful. i mean, it feels good (obviously), but at the same time...well, like i said, it's painful. i guess the best way to describe it is that it feels like having regular menstrual cramps...but instead of being in my lower abdomen, they're in my clit/vaginal region. they don't last long--they go away as soon as the orgasm ends.my question is, is this normal? and is there any way that i can prevent it from happening in the future?

Menstrual cramps are the muscles contracting painfully, orgasms are some of the same muscles contracting not painfully. Since it's some of the same muscles, it can make the cramping a bit worse by causing more of those contractions. I have this happen too if it's a very strong one. You can prevent it by taking some ibuprofen or acetaminophen 30 minutes ahead of time.
Though if they are sharp pains rather than cramp pains, you should probably ask a doctor.
