writes:I have never had a boyfriend. I'm not really the type of person to give a shit ordinarily, but in the last few months it has really been bothering me. I'm a bit chubby (size 16) but other than that I don't think I'm overly hideous. I'm a little bit shy around new people, and extremely sarcastic, but otherwise fairly good natured, laid back, up for a laugh etcetc. Since I was about 16, people I meet have asked me why it is that I do not have a boyfriend, and I assumed it was because there were more attractive girls around. 4 years on, nothing has changed. My question is, wtf? *forever alone.

reader, anonymous, writes (8 June 2011): There is no need for society to put pressure on people to have 'boyfriends' as if it is not normal to not have one at any given time, but sadly society often does do this rather than realising that it causes promiscuity and heart ache after heart ache. Anyway what I feel is that you should take your own time, try to ignore others and also to have a friendly responce ready for people if they should happen to ask.
Like " Well I know I could get one right- but I am enjoying the scenery for now - thanks!"

Dont become desperate. Just look at the people here they ask all sorts of relation problems. I would ask you to concentrate on personal development. coz worrying solved noone's problem.I m 22, and so are my friends, many of my classmates have married, have kids and stuff. Just think about it There will atleast half more life to be with your companion. its ok to look around. But the picture inside is not always pretty as it seems. So beware and you will definetely have someone love you really not for your looks but for your nature. Because 1day people become old, looks are not permanent.

if its any consolation I have never had a great relationship in my life, and only 1 proper boyfriend who lied constantly to me. I often have the same thoughts and questions as you have written in your letter, and like you I am a size 16. (5 ft 7). I wish I had better advice but I just want to let you know you are not the only one who feels this way.
