writes: I've been on the contraceptive pill for a year now, when i first started taking the pill i had the usual breakthrough bleeding. however, every month for a year (give or take a few), i have brown spotting/ discharge a week before my period is due. i went to the doctors about this and she advised me to stay as i am as changing pills may take me back to square one. however last month i was prescribed a different brand of the pill due to cutting medical costs, im now 2 weeks into my second pack of the new brand and im experiencing a quite heavy phase of brown discharge. i take my pill at the same time every morning and have never missed a pill, im definitely not pregnant and have no STDs etc but i am sexual active. can this still be breakthrough bleeding from my new brand of pills, or is there anything else that many be causing this?

It's most likely caused by your pill. You need to speak to a doctor about switching brands and to make sure that's all that's wrong.
