Why has she kept my number?

Question - (5 January 2011) 2 Answers - (Newest, 5 January 2011)
A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

i met a girl at college and she seemed to be giving me signals of interest. anyway, we eventually exchanged numbers and began flirting and texting until almost 2am on college night (something i wouldnt expect friends to do on a college night). her friends would also keep looking at me but she couldnt face to face, even when she was facing me.

now to the question: There was one time towards the end of the academic year i came into the canteen and it appeared she was waiting for me. she was sitting on a table with her 2 friends with no food or packed lunch and wasnt in a hurry to order anything. I then queued up so i could buy my lunch and as soon as I did so, her and one of her mates came into the back of the queue behind me. when I looked round to talk to my friend, I noticed she had her back to me, which in my opinion appears to mean she is shy. so i proceeded in the queue and I turned round to talk to my friend again and this time she was facing me and I noticed she was looking at me. I looked at her and we held eye contact for about 5 or 6 secs in a deep, intense way where it felt like we were the only two in the room and her eyes were big, like dilated. Also, after about 3 secs of the eye contact my mind (I think intuition) said " yeah she likes you ". I then turned my back on her and when i looked round again she appeared like she was embarrassed and was over acting in looking at the foods etc. it just seemed like she felt humiliated. so I paid for my food and turned round to talk to my friend again and she again was looking at me. I then looked at her and again we held eye contact for another 5 or 6 seconds and again in a deep prolonged way, again her eyes seemed dilated and I noticed her eyes appeared sparkling. anyways I turned my back again and when i Tried to text her she was very angry and said " oh if i wanted to talk to you I would" and if that was the case I'm pretty sure she wouldnt wait for me or try to be close to me if she hated me. plus after she said that when i next saw her in the hallway, she wouldnt look round at me but her friend did, which means shes doing it for her friend. so we had an argument and this year she has new friends and she has now told them about me too like she did her friends last semester. I gave her a xmas card and she text me which shows shes still got my number even after the argument.

one of her friends had their back to me, then she turned her body round and faced me, and just looked at me... not laughing or mocking me, but a serious way... like shes trying to say something to me Also, when I first saw her this new semester she panicked and ran into the toilet

so why has he kept my number and why cant she look at me yet her friends do ?
