A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I was reading some other posts here and it got me thinking. Why does so much of porn refer to women by using demeaning names?

I can't really repeat the titles as children may read her but even the biggest most popular sites have titles that refer to the women as b^^ches and see her in pain or humiliated .

Why?

A male reader, anonymous, writes (29 May 2015):

Porn does not get made for its average viewer. It gets made for its average buyer.

The average viewer sees it free online and never spends the money. They have some effect on what gets made but the guys who buy it have a whole lot more.

The producers are often assholes towards women and the buyers are at least closer to that way than average.

I think the average male viewer does not really ENJOY the degradation of women in porn so much as just not bother to avoid it. When guys look at porn they are usually not in a very high principled mood.

olderthandirt agony auntNo real good answer for any of that oher than to turn on the viewer more. Using "bad" language is kind of naughty don't you know. The first time I heard a girl use the 'F word" I was sort of tintilated as it's not an everyday thing to hear girls say..now guys usit all the time but never around girls. It's the taste of the forbidden fruit don't you know.

I'm not sure what type of lesbian the last responder watched and thought was made by lesbians for lesbians but I can assure him that the pirn that is produced by female friendly producers rarely if ever included slapping spitting and calling women names

I strongly suspect that the viewers often assume lesbian porn is 'real lesbians performing for other lesbians when in fact it's just like the other degrading porn ir made by men for men!

As im currently resenst ging the issue of violence against women in porn, I would be extremely interested to hear of any female producers who make porn for women where the women are referred to as sluts whores and c** buckets

A reader, anonymous, writes (23 May 2015):

I don't know how relevant this is, but I TOFT and watched some lesbian porn (made by and for them) and they also use words like sl*T and b*tch.

It's a curious situation. Those words sure don't do anything for me. It's almost a convention.

"Do men need to see women treated that way to enjoy porn?"

Not all men, but apparently enough to make pandering this particular type of porn profitable.

"It sometimes feels like the viewers secretly hate women"

Very possible as I would suggest that for at least some men indulging in this type of deviant fantasy is perhaps a response to their having been degraded and humiliated by women in their own lives, in some cases starting with their mothers, making it more of a revenge fantasy than a sexual fantasy.

I'm not defending or excusing it and I completely understand your objections, but as previously stated porn is a business that ultimately makes money by satisfying customer demand just like in any industry.

As long as there are paying customers willing to spend money to watch paid professional models of legal age engaging in simulated acts of degradation and humiliation, there will be businesspersons willing to present such adults-only entertainment for their personal financial gain.

As H. L. Mencken said more than 100 years ago, "No one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public."

A female reader, anonymous, writes (20 May 2015):

Oh and the reason I say it seems like the viewers hate women ( before a yome says no no it's not men it's the porn makers) is because , as some people have already mentioned , the industry provides what the consumer wants.

Also I must disagree with the writer who says porn is only ' sometimes' like this. From my observations it is often and frequently like this . One never needs to 'seek out' this type of abuse , it right there on much of the material with women Being degraded . I do understand and agree that this is because these type of degrading videos must do well with the viewers but my question is why?

Surely it's not just that , as one writers states , men like obscene language . Swearing cups easily be used without calling the women a dirty ***** and inviting the viewers to see her get used, ruined , humiliated , destroyed?

I won't even mention the multiple times my partner would choose a random seemingly ok video to share that didn't have this language , only to find the woman was spat on , called names , sometimes her head held so she gagged and hair pulled ?

What is going on ?

I don't have any problem with explicit languaguage not am I religious . I simply don't underdtand why women are so frequently called degrading names and they even tell the viewer to 'come watch this bitch humiliated' etc. seems that type of degradation is inherent. Do men need to see women treated that way to enjoy porn? It sometimes feels like the viewers secretly hate women

A reader, anonymous, writes (19 May 2015):

The porn industry profits from deviance, bad-taste, and alternative life-styles. It is not meant for religious people, or intended for family-oriented entertainment. So they use explicit and obscene language. They use swearing and explicit images for their targeted audience. Mostly men.

So what would you expect?

A male reader, anonymous, writes (19 May 2015):

"Why?"

Because porn is a business catering to a predominantly male clientele willing to pay large sums of money to indulge in their sexual fantasies, however explicit and graphic they may be.

" . . . even the biggest most popular sites have titles that refer to the women as b^^ches and see her in pain or humiliated"

The biggest most popular sites became the biggest most popular sites by offering titles appealing to the widest possible spectrum of potential customers, no different than any other big business seeking to saturate the market. If someone wasn't buying it then they wouldn't be selling it.

I wouldn't say porn is "evil," but I will say the porn business in inherently exploitative, employing women (and men) who are generally uneducated and economically disadvantaged, often with substance abuse problems or other psychological issues; they are paid peanuts in relation to the profits they generate for their employers and discarded as soon as their physical attractive begins to fade.

To the lady that says pen is evil. It's just watching other people have sex. I think you're over reacting a bit.

To the OP: I don't understand why porn is (sometimes) like that. It's also often racist. It could be a dominance thing. Wishing for an alpha status.

I prefer to watch simple amateur homemade stuff so I don't desensitize myself. If rather be having sex with my wife but when she's not in the mood I have a backup.

A reader, anonymous, writes (19 May 2015):

All porn is demeaning to women and objectifies women.

With or without the name calling, it's humiliating--it's simply more apparent in some porn than in others. Porn is demoralizing and destructive in countless ways to both men and women. It's also addictive and can give rise to sexual deviance and crimes against women.

There are many resources out there about porn addiction. If you watch porn, I suggest you look into them. There are several fantastic books on Amazon on the subject.

I know a lot about the subject as my husband was a porn addict years ago, and it nearly destroyed our marriage.

I've suffered tremendous pain since childhood from porn--starting with a teen cousin who would watch porn in the basement, I believe that porn is evil..
