Why does my boyfriend act differently with his friends and brothers around?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My friend (we'll call her... Lily) noticed something about my boyfriend (we'll call him... Greg) that I noticed too. See, whenever we hang out (just Greg, Lily, and I) he acts differently than when Greg, Lily, Me, and a bunch of Greg's guy friends are there too. For example, when were with his friends, he's more "touchy" Like no matter where I go, whether were standing or sitting, he's always has his hands on me (like my waist, or my shoulder, ect) (Don't get me wrong - I dont see it as a bad thing)Also I told him I didn't want to kiss him infront of his friends and brothers, and he said "I won't feel weird, it doesn't matter to me if they are there watching. They'll just probably say 'Wooo!' or something."

Although when it's just Greg, Lily, and I hanging out he will sit next to me, and talk to me, but he doesn't keep his arm around me. My friend Lily said that it's like he acts like he owns me when there's other guys around. What do you think???

Guys like to mark out their territory. Some do, anyway. Sad, but true - if it's making you uncomfortable, however, he really should be taking your feelings into consideration and not pawing you. Also, take into account how your friends feel - some people get uncomfortable around public displays of affection...
