Why does having sex with someone make me start to have feelings? I've been having a sexual relationship with a guy I hardly know off and on for a year and sometimes I feel like I love him I know this can't be true just wondering why sex causes that feeling and is it the same way for guys?

DoubleM agony auntGee, I think that is quite naturally a human inclination to develop fond feelings for another person with whom one shares the most intimate of interactions.

Personally, and as a man, I cannot imagine having NO fondness for a woman who pleases me and who also enjoys what I can do for her sexually. For me, making love begins with some kind of affection, although often also driven by lust, and is best enjoyed in a caring way.

In my case, there remains sweet memories and more for just about every woman I've known intimately the last 46 years. Just wish we could get together again, because I still appreciate the moments we shared, even if we (in some situations) were not "in love" at the time and just having fun. In summary, a really nice personal relationship between a man and woman includes mutual sexual gratification, and it is best if there are "feelings."

Why wouldn't it cause feelings? Oxytocin gets released in the brains of women during sex, but not men. It's nature.

A male reader, Mr.Insignificant United States +, writes (14 May 2009):

Mr.Insignificant agony auntI can't speak for all the men but as for me, I can't sleep with a woman unless it is a real relationship. I wasn't always like that but....

Sex is a fabulous thing! It is good for our health, reduces stress, connects our souls, lowers inhibitions, expresses security, love, it is the ultimate form of giving yourself to someone.

Of the countless times I had sex without love, not one time compares to the times I had sex in love!

Now I am guessing here that you are introspective of your emotions and the woman that you are. As such, the more you sleep with this man, the more you give of yourself to him. There is security in what they two of you share between the sheets (or wherever ye may be!)

Intrinsically speaking, your inner woman recognizes the emotional, mental, physical, spiritual benefits that come from your time with him.

Sex can be just sex, but it is meant to be so much more! I think you are there.
