Why do people look at couples (even friends) walking together?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Everytime I am talking to a guy everyone notices us. I am always walking by myself on campus, but it seems that everytime I have a male companion, the guys would give him dirty looks. It was so weird, last time I was talking to this guy and he looked at me and liked his lips and then at my friend as if he was going to knock my friend it out.

Its crazy, it even happened A LOT when I was walking with my cousin. Just about 90% of the men that we passed looked like they wanted to kick his a$$!!! I was scared for him (I can not fight first of all and I am not trying to fight a guy if any1)

And the girls, are the worse, they would flip their hair and switch pass us just so that my companion would look her way.

The girls do not really bother me because of course I am single and I do not claim any of these friends.

So why do people want to give all of this attention when you are with (not exactly in a relationship) someone? I look at couples too, but it usually a glance because I look at people in general (I used to draw faces a lot, so I have a thing for noticing ppl).

Is it jealousy?

i think you have already posted this question, you probably did not get any answers (or they were not sufficient for you). Let me tell you once and for all, you are ludicrous to think 90% of the people you pass have time to waste on getting mad at your companion because he is lucky enough to be walking next to you? Don't be silly, you are old enough to know better.

QuirkLady agony auntIt's all in your head.

Sure, some guys and girls are looking, but if you think 90% of the men you pass are making angry faces at the guy with you, you have a seriously inflated ego. Maybe there was a huge fight earlier on campus or they all came out of a screening of a terrible movie. Maybe the girls were trying to attract the dude walking behind you or feeling cute about themselves that day and flirting with everyone. The point is, you don't know what is going on in anyone's head so you can't say definitively what was going on.

It definitely is NOT all about you. You are seeing this through ego-coated lenses. Most people are trying to get through the day worrying about their own business. You would be better off doing the same.

Maybe most of the people around you are on angry drugs.
