Why Do People Act This Way When They See A Couple(friends)?

A female United States age 36-40, *eau_Gallante writes:

Whenever my guy friends and me are talking...like one on one...people always act funny around us.

For example like today, I was talking to one of my friends (Im a woman btw) and just about every girl that walked by was staring, switching and flipping their hair passed us.

Even the guys were looking at my friend like they wanted to bash his face in.

Another time was when I was talking to another friend of mine, when we were on campus, guys were giving him dirty looks...and the girls did the same thing (switching, flipping their hair, etc.).

Why do people act this way, is it jealousy, are they trying to compete or do they think we are together?

Its funny because when us quiet, shy people are by ourselves no one wants to say anything or pay attention to us...
