I think you are taking this a bit out of proportion mainly because of the way MSN is; you know how it is, people come online and you get distracted and dont finish typing. Did he go soon after?? Maybe he got called away from the PC or thrown off. The point is that there are a million and one other perfectly plausible explanations as to why he didnt ping you back. So, it's really impossible to turn round and say he doesnt like you just from this, you are showing your own slight sensitivity there which doesnt tell us much about how he feels.
Try again or even better if you feel up to it try some face-to-face contact. If he persistently doesnt reply then that might be a better indicator but as this is a one-off and you say he did start to reply dont worry too much for now. Good luck :)
