Why can't I shake these feelings of doubt?

A male United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm an 18 year old high school student, and I know it seems semi-juvenile for me to be acting this way, but I can't shake it, and I've tried everything.

My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost a year (one year exactly in May.) and although I wasn't like this before, I'm always jealous and suspicious of her now. She had just recently moved to my town about 4 months before I met her (almost year ago), and now when she talks about her old friends, it's as if I'm not important in any way. She gets super excited to go hang with them, but she almost never has the same reaction for me, and she gets really moody when I'm around or when we're talking on the phone. Whenever she goes to her old town, (which isn't that far away, about an hours drive.) she never seems to tell me about everything she did. She always leaves something out, like "we went to a show" or "I met this person and we hung out _all day_ at the mall" and stuff like that. I know she's had numerous boyfriends in her old town, and for some reason I have these feelings like she goes and sees them behind my back or something.

I don't know if I'm just being protective, jealous, overbearing, controlling, or what, but I need someone's advice, as I cannot shake these feelings of doubt.

oh god, it's like you are talking about me:) look i have the same thing with my boyfriend, i just moved to his town and i always go back to see my friends but i don't give him any details because i don't want to bore him. and no i'm not cheating on him, so your girlfriend might be doing the same. i would love it if he wants to come with me to meet my friends but he doesn't seem intersted, so why don't you ask to accompany her, i'm sure she'll be more than happy that you're showing interest!

Good luck

To her, things just may be getting routine.. I know I started a routine with my guy- once we started talking I felt like he didnt really care so I woudlnt give the details really- becuase usually if I did he would overreact.. Needless to say we broke up because I didnt support his ego- and he didnt care about me back. So really- there might be something missing that you arent giving your girlfriend- try talking with her about deeper things or taking her on adventures around town or go camping etc. Share something DIFFERENT together- show her how much you care and communicate- let her know to tell you if she is attracted tosoemone else and you promise you will do the same to tell her- install trust and open communication in eachother and things will work out?!?! Hope this helps!

AskEve agony auntBecause she doesn't see her friends as often she IS excited when they hang out. Doesn't mean she's cheating on you though. When she tells you things she'll get the vibes that you're not that interested, even a bit jealous so she's only toning things down so you don't jump to the wrong conclusions.

Don't let jealousy eat away at you, it's a completely worthless emotion and is of no benefit to you whatsoever. Trust her more, don't doubt her or your relationship will go downhill big time. Go WITH her when she goes to see her friends, get to know them, that way you'll know who she's talking about when she says someone's name. Let them see how lucky she is to have a boyfriend that is happy and supportive to her.

I forgot to add, we love each other very much, and I am sure of this, but I have always heard about the situation some people get in where they love one person, but they can also be physically or even emotionally attracted to someone else at the same time.

I love her so much and I can't bear losing her.
