Zim agony auntA headache can happen for any number of reasons. Firstly, I would recommend that if it has been going on for a week go to see your doctor. The reasons headaches occur I think could be because of:

Stress: This is probably the most likely reason considering what you have said. Stress is a surprisingly important thing in our lives. It can depress us intensely if it becomes too great. If you are depressed the only thing I can say is go to see your gp and they can prescribe some anti depressants or if its more serious refer you to another psychiatric professional. You should never feel embarrassment for going to them. As far as i'm concerned, they are helping you to help yourself and I cannot respect a person more for doing something to help themselves.

Spinal problems: Any trauma or damage or general malalignment (abnormal bending) of the upper spine (cervical) can cause headaches because of the arteries that run through it. If you've had an accident fairly recently which has involved your neck, go to see a doctor immediately and they will be able to help you out.

Also, I am guessing from the "sand in your eyes" comment, you are not getting much sleep as a result of this headache. I am a Physiotherapy student, and one of the things we are always told, is that if something affects your sleeping pattern, it is extremely important to see the doctor. There could be a number of reasons, great or small but the only way you will know is if you see a doctor or a Physiotherapist.

I really hope that answers your question and I hope the headache goes away.
