Where do you think our relationship is going?

A female United States age 41-50, *9agegap writes:

Hi, need some thoughts on this matter. After a period of being single, I finally met P, a friend of friends and we've been together for 1month+. We are similar in age (28), interests, share the same friends and he treats me very well. I've met most of his friends and part of his family and things seem to be going well. He has told me he loves me and I'm very special to him.

Only thing is he's moving overseas for studies for 3 years in another half a year. This is good for him so I'm not expecting him to give it up.

The thing is, I really wonder where our relationship is going. I've asked him this question and he said let's see how we handle it if we make it til the day he has to leave. Which I also agree as I think there's no point thinking too much.

However, this 'barrier' is always at the back of my mind as I keep wondering what will happen. 3 years is a long time and I'm not confident of a long distance relationship. Also, I do not want to wait for him for 3 years as I will be over 30 then and I do want to get married and have kids in early 30s. Besides, I think I will get jealous given he's going to a university, and meeting many new people.

I wonder if any of you have had this situation before and how did you handle it?
