I agree with Kenny - why don't you ask her to do something outside of school? Maybe invite her over to watch a movie or go someplace fun together - like on a picnic or something. It might sound lame to you, but I think she would actually find it sweet. I'm sure once you two got together you would find an appropriate time to kiss - when you both feel comfortable about it. And then you won't have to ask, you'll just know.

 I guess the time varies as to how far the relationship is progressing. So you only see her at school, why don't you ask her to do something outside, like go to the cinema or something. When the mood feels right and you are both relaxed this would be a good time to french kiss.
