I try to get it... in, but it doesn't go in. It's annoying because I can't go swimming whenever I've got my period and if a friend asks me to go to the pool or the beach with them trying to come up with a reason I can't go is awkward. Anyways, that's unrelated. My real question is: Am I not gonna be able to have sx w/ the love of my life ten yrs from now when he comes along and I really want to?! what's wrong with my body -- am I some kind of mutant?!

reader, anonymous, writes (25 January 2009): well, here's a really embarrassing tidbit about myself that i never told anyone…my mom put it my first tampon when i was 12…b/c i had a dance competition and was about to go on stage and had started my period that day…i was freaking out and couldn't do it myself and was scared but i had no choice…
once you can do it though…tampons are the greatest…esp. if you get stronger ones, so then you don't have to worry about leakage…sit down and look at yourself in the mirror…there's your urethra (which you wont be able to see/where you urinate from) and your vagina where the tampon should go…you should be able to find diagrams and what not on the net to help…
try bending your knees a bit when you do it and pushing your hips forward slightly…the key is to relax…chances are that when you're trying to do it, you're tensing up the inner walls of your vagina…just try to relax your muscles
as far as not being able to have sex in the future…don't worry, you'll be fine…the first time you have sex though will be easier if you relax your muscles…just like putting in a tampon…hope this helps…you're becoming a woman! :p
