Im asking this because im best friends with a girl and we are really close. The only thing we don't do is kiss and have sex but we do sometimes hug and hold hands. So is there any difference?

A friendship does not involve any physical contact of a sexual nature. Like kissing, petting, sex.....
Having a Gf is usually a little more *full-on* with a least a bit of snogging.
This freindship could develop into something more or it could stay as a close friendship.
Hope this helps a little.

Friendships like the one you have with this girl are so special and should if possible be left as friendship, you both have a bond and support and rely on each other, why complicate it by trying to decide what it is, just enjoy it for what it is.

Yes, that's a main difference. A girl who's your friend can be emotionally intimate, but not sexual. A girlfriend (ideally) is everything that your best-girl-friend is, but also sexually attractive, so that you want to kiss her and be physically intimate.
Actually, you might want to give your best friend another look as girlfriend material, because people that you can be emotionally open and vulnerable with are harder to find than any other type of relationship.
It could also be that your best friend sees you as potentially more than a friend, already.
Hope that this helps.
