right with regards to the second question, 3500 calories = 1Lb in body fat so if you shedded off 500 cal each day over a week you would lose a pound in weight, try not to go to crazy or take off to much carbs and calories from your diet to lose weight to quick because its not healthy.
hope this helps.

I read in a health/fitness magazine that to burn more fat you should exercise in the morning before you eat. However I would be a little careful using caution when doing this so you don't injure yourself. I kept getting down to within 15 lbs of my goal weight but then got very depressed and in 1.5 yrs time have almost gained all the weight back I lost. I know that establishing healthy eating habits on a low fat/low cal food plan is the best way to lose weight and then keep it off. I'm depressed and unhappy and nothing seems to work for me; I just keep gaining weight. Also you can do little things like drink more fluids (non sugary), low cal mayo or use mustard, avoid cookies/cakes/candies but perhaps treat yourself to a small portion of a sweet once or twice weekly (not at night) and don't eat as close to 4 hrs before bedtime as possible.

Rk06 obviously knows a lot more about the way things work than I do. The only thing that I would add, is to emphasise what he said about not trying to take off too much too fast. Every dieter who loses a lot of weight fast puts it all back on, and a bit more each time. Yo-yo dieters get gradually fatter and fatter. This is because, like rk06 said, you body will fight you if it thinks it is starving. This is a natural survival mechanism that has existed since we existed, and it will not give up, ever. It has a much stronger will then you have, and you would lose the fight. So don’t pick a fight with it in the first place. You have to fool your body into giving up the fat by doing it slowly and steadily. Good luck.

I am a Biology major at the University of Nebraska. Your body's metabolism is an interesting thing... feed it too much, you gain fat... don't feed it enough, then your body will lock everything in that it possibly can.
Here is what I feel would work the best.
Instead of three large meals a day, eat 5-6 smaller ones. Don't let your body tell you its hungry, because then naturally you will eat more. Instead, eat a small portion of something every 2-3 hours.
This will boost your metabolic rate, and you should have a lot more energy. Use this energy to exercise.
It is not a good idea to try to lose that much weight that fast. The idea I gave you would cut off around 5-10 pounds in 5 weeks. This is more of a lifestyle to go by.
I decided to lose a little bit of weight when I went to college, and this is what I did. I lost about 15 pounds in 3 months, but I also kept it off, and I am still losing.
Good luck :)
