What's my next step?

A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I just moved into a new place with a friend of mine. A couple weeks ago, when we first moved in, we had a house warming party. One of the boys who lives in the apartment below us came up and hung out with us for a while. It was fun and he was cute, but I was pretty drunk and don't really remember 100% of everything that night.

I was walking another one of my friends home, partially hoping to sober up a little, when my roommate texted me and told me that the neighbor boy liked me and wanted my number. (She didn't give it to him because she doesn't like to give out other people's numbers, which is fine with me). I didn't think much of it and went back home and went to bed.

The next morning, my roommate and I were talking and she mentioned it again. I guess he was texting her all night trying to get my number and find out if I liked him. I chalked it up to drunken talk and didn't think about it.

But, whenever we have a question, if she texts him, he never answers. If I text him, he answers. We kind of flirt back and forth but we don't really see each other very often since we're both in school and working.

My question is - what should I do? I don't want to do anything to make things awkward since he lives below us and I get along pretty well with the rest of his roommates. I'm not a particularly forward person (the idea of initiating things tends to make me really uncomfortable). What's my next step? Do I not do anything and just let whatever is gonna happen happen?

And yes - I do like him. I think he's cute and funny and generally seems like the kind of person I want to be around.
