Question - (23 March 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 13 November 2010)
A female United Kingdom age 51-59, anonymous writes:

I had a relationship with someone, who is not well, alcohol and stealing ruined it, I took him to court for fraud theft etc after several attempts he admitted it. In the meantime he tried to kiil himself.

10 months later we got back together and three weeks later he stole my jewellery after drinking, I challenged him about this and he lead me to believe it was somewhere it wasnt, I reported him to the police and he got away with it due to lack of evidence.

I already had finished the relationhip then 4 months later I receive a call from him, again leading me to believe it is in a pawn shop and wants to meet me face to face to tell me the truth and he says he can't live without me and has again tried to kill himself over it.

Then when I arranged to meet he cancelled saying we should not be in contact, now telling my friends not to believe my lies as I am making all this up same as last time and he has made a mistake.

A female reader, petina1 United Kingdom +, writes (13 November 2010):

petina1 agony auntIt's simple, he's an alcoholic and until this is addressed he will not be able to change. You will never have anything of value with him because he needs it to feed his addiction with it. I know of an alcoholic and all you have written here could be him, it's classic. You need to tell him to go away from you and sort himself out. Alcoholics anonymous is there for him, or the doctor will suggest rehab/detox for him. You won't be able to help him he needs the professionals by the sounds of it. If you do decide to stay with him you are in for a rocky life. You have to be cruel to be kind. Let him know when he has kicked the addiction you will be willing to talk to him again. Don't let him use the emotional blackmail with you as an excuse for you to forgive him, he needs serious help.
