What ways are there to help explain to her that I did not mean to violate her trust and what can I do to help bring our friendship back?

A female Canada age 30-35, *itserious writes:

Yesterday, I was at a party at my friend's house. Everyone was really drunk, and making out. My friend and her ex-boyfriend hooked up (all the way) and then she got mad after and went to sleep. I'm friends with the ex, so I followed him out to the other room to talk. We started making out and one thing led to another, and I was giving him a hj.

My friend found out, we talked about it, but she was really mad. She had told me that she didn't have feelings for this guy anymore, and wanted me to make out with him. Now she will barely talk to me online and I can't see her in person for a couple of days.

How can I fix this? We were both really drunk, and once the guy started to take my clothes off I realized what I was doing was wrong, because he had just slept with my best friend. I left and went to check on our other friend in another room.

I know that our trust was broken, but I love her so much, I don't want to lose her as a friend. She told me that she was beyond hurt. I explained that I should have realized what I was doing earlier and that alcohol is no excuse. I'm afraid our relationship is broken.

What ways, if any, are there to help explain to her that I did not mean to violate her trust and what can I do to help bring our friendship back?

A female reader, muncher United Kingdom +, writes (24 January 2009):

You could try explaining yourself in a letter and post it to her, think it through and get a friend outside your friendship with her to proof read it and check that it sounds ok before sending it.... if she doesnt speak to you, give it a fortnight and get in touch, you didnt do anything THAT bad so she wont be mad forever, if you like i could help you with the letter.. but either way best of luck.xx
