What was my co worker really asking me?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

a co-worker of mine and myself were talking the other day and he randomly asked me about things i think about. I dont really know him all that well because i only started the job a few months back. So i just made a simple answer because it threw me off guard. But when i asked him the same thing he started telling me about how he tends to stress about his finances and how he wants to travel more. It just felt awkward because we have never really talked before and it was a weird question to ask out of the blue. any ideas as to what he meant or what he could be thinking? he has been a little flirty but nothing to say that he has any interest...i guess it just made me think twice about what he was really asking me.

This is verified as being by the original poster of the question

he is 21-22...It just kind of surprised me because it was like one of the first actual conversation we have had and he all of a sudden opened up like that. He can be a little flirty, the usual teasing and walking over by me for no reason here and there, but nothing that really ever stood out to me

The guy could be interested but he just doesnt know how to start a conversation for whatever reason (nervousness, anxiety, etc). I used to kinda be like this but it didnt last for long as I learned naturally how to speak to women. How old is he?
