We were together 10 years have two kids together, had some major disagreements we split up for a year now we are trying to work everything out. I don't want to give him a plain valentines day card. I used to always write something in them.

So...
You could look up love quotes on the internet and just write down a quote you find meaningful and which could apply to the two of you.
There are so many out there. Some very nice ones too.
Just have a look around. I am sure something will jump out at you.
