writes: Hello guys.Our new manager at work has got very close to one of my colleagues - by close i mean they go to lunch together, saturdays they go to town and clubbing etc..I know theres no law about a manager and a colleague being friends out of work but i always get the feeling that my colleague knows about everything that goes on in the workplace before the rest of us get told as she never acts suprised when we are told something new. Also im sure she tells our manager what goes on when she's out of the office as she seems to know what goes on...unless she has a camera in the room to spy on us? It does feel like we are walking on eggshells a bit when our colleague is in the room and the rest of us want to have a laugh.Other collegues have noticed this but none of us want to confront anyone as this will make our job more awkward.Any advice?

reader, anonymous, writes (3 January 2009): The best way of checking if anything is getting back to the manager is to drop a few false trails when she's around and see if anything is said about it. I'm sure that collectively you'll all be able to think of some spoof or other, something that's bound to attract his attention.
