Then write something like:
Hey (Whatever his name is)
Happy late birthday, how could I forget you?!
Thanks for being a cool boyfriend, loadsa love from (Whatever your name is) xxx
Next time, give him a birthday card on time so it's not awkward. At least your card will make him laugh!

You're only 12, and his birthday was in January?
If so, he has so forgot his birthday. If you want to send him something don't link it to the birthday - as you are so young, maybe just get a little teddybear saying "thinking of you" or something on it.
Don't fret - you are very young. Anything you do can be considered learning.

 you could send him a "woopse I forgot your birthday" type card or just get him a funny card and write in it that you want to say happy belated birthday with some kisses and a love from!!
Or why not get one of these cards that record your message, this way you could sing happy birthday and make up a rhyme that was funny, this is light hearted and jokey.
