I'm a virgin, but i found a lump on my inner thigh which is sitting on the right side my vagina (the edge of the lip). Its not too hard but if i apply pressure to it, it does hurt a little bit. What is it ? Im really worried about it and i'm nervous/scared to got the doctors. I'm hoping its nothing too serious, so if any of you know what it is or have any info for me it would be very much appriciated.

Hi, It does sound like a Bartholin cyst sweetie...

I had one about 8 years ago that turned into an abcess...which believe me, is soooo painful it made me cry aswell as throw up.

I then formed the cyst again and I have to be honest, I left it for 7 (yes 7) years!

The thing is, it has just got bigger and bigger, so a couple of months ago I saw my GP who refferred me to the Gynaecologist...I saw them on Monday and I am now booked in to have a simple op to remove it on 17th Dec.

It really is worth seeing your GP...if you leave it like I did, it will get bigger and you will have to get it sorted at some point in the future...and believe me, I am not worried about the op, as I know it can't possibly be as painful as when it turned into an abccess.

Honestly...go and see your GP for a refferral and GOOD LUCK! XX

Sandman agony auntHmmm.

Sounds like (****PLEASE NOTE: I'm not a doctor so I can't diagnose what you actually have. I can only speculate from the information you have given.****) a Bartholin cyst. These usually tend to lie on one side of the vagina near the outer labia.

From what I understand, these are usually benign (meaning non cancerous) and sometimes go away by themselves. The cyst is usually not painful but tender (discomfort or pain upon touching). It is caused by an obstruction of the Bartholin Duct (which lubricates the vagina) - which causes the back up which causes the cyst to grow.

You should see a doctor anyway. However, if you choose not to - the things for you to worry about is the cyst becoming infected. If this happens, you will find pain during walking, sexual intercourse, increased swelling where the cyst is and fever. At this point you MUST see a doctor. It will need to be surgically drained and you will be placed on antibiotics.

You COULD however NOT have a Bartholin cyst and it be something else entirely. This is why I said in the first sentence of the previous paragraph you should see a doctor anyway. Let the doctor tell you what it is and how he/she will treat it.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I am a medical professional in case anyone is wondering :)

Not enough for me to say, hon, but it could be many things. They can be simply an enlarged lymph node, which goes away in a short time. Or it may be an allergic reaction of some kind. Men have them too. But, it is always a good idea to get them checked by a medico.

angelblueeyes agony auntHi,

I know its scary going to the doctors but you must, it maybe something as simple as an infected spot but you its not worth the risk and you are better to get it checked out.

Hope it works out well for you!
