some times it's used to describe a relationship in which the qualities of your partner that strongly attracted you to them in the first place, eventually become really turn you off and lead to the break up.
For example, what initially you saw in your partner as his "confidence" and thus very attractive, may over time change in your perception to his "arrogance" that turns you off. even though your partner hasn't actually changed who he is or what he does, simply that the way you perceive his same qualities has changed from positive to negative.
